The Korean Association for the Study of Pain is the South Korean chapter of the International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP). It conducts studies in all basic academic fields and pain-related clinical areas to develop a multidisciplinary approach to pain treatment and research [1]. Established in 1983 as a society that promotes pain research, academic exchange, and cooperation, it is currently a representative society of pain-related research in Korea. The Korean Association for the Study of Pain has been publishing the International Journal of Pain since 1991; currently, two volumes are issued annually. The International Journal of Pain publishes valuable and meaningful studies conducted by clinicians and researchers specializing in pain management, which enables the sharing of clinical experiences and knowledge and objective discussion of the results.
From the upcoming issue, the Korean Association for the Study of Pain and the Korean Pain Intervention Society (KORSIS) will jointly publish the International Journal of Pain. Established in 2014, KORSIS is devoted to the research, education, and training of specialists on interventions for pain caused by the spine and peripheral neuromuscular structures. Till date, KORSIS has held 47 symposiums and is a representative society of pain intervention research in Korea. KORSIS has been working hard to develop and expand the foundation of evidence-based spinal pain interventions through various research activities. Several pain management specialists in Korea have been trained through this society and routinely apply their acquired skills in the field. Currently, KORSIS is researching pain interventions and other pain-related topics and aiding in the education of clinicians.
The collaboration between the Korean Association for the Study of Pain and KORSIS will allow for the publication of richer and diverse studies and more fruitful discussions among readers. With the growing importance of pain management, this partnership will help further develop the International Journal of Pain and provide readers with abundant knowledge required for clinical practice. Strengthening of the theoretical background of pain management and frequent introduction of novel treatments are expected through this collaboration.
We hope to witness not only a joining of forces, but also a synergy with this alliance.
