Neuropathic pain is defined as a pain initiated or caused by a primary lesion or dysfunction in the nervous system. The mechanisms underlying neuropathic pain are not completely understood but are considered to be complex, multifactoral, and to evolve over time. Numerous peripheral and central mechanisms were proposed. However, phantom limb pain is hard to explain by those mechanisms. Melzack proposed a new theory, neuromatrix theory. The author makes it easy to understand melting into a poetic explanation in Korean. The peripheral nerves cannot make every sensation. The brain makes it by editing the neurosigmature. All sensory inputs are delivered to the brain through the peripheral nerves. These sensory inputs are broken into elements and processed through a neuromatrix. The repeated cyclical processing and synthesis of nerve impulses through the neuromatrix imparts a characteristic pattern: the neurosignature. The neurosignature is modi光ed by the experiences throughout the whole life. The neurosignature is sent to the sentient neural hub, where the stream of nerve impulses is converted into a continually changing stream of awareness. All sensation never directly delivered to the brain. Your brain makes each sensation using your memories. If there is no brain, no one can exist, even there will be no universe, and no pain.
